Design Guidelines

The following guidelines should be employed in creating effective, consistent content for official University Web sites.

Fonts

The following fonts have been adopted as University-wide standards for Web content.

  • Arial (Download – To download right-click on the link and select “Save Target As”)
For regular page text. This font is widely available on nearly all client browsers, ensuring display consistency. Arial Bold should be used for emphasis.
  • Verdana
For regular page text. This font is widely available on nearly all client browsers, ensuring display consistency.
  • Franklin Gothic Demi Condensed (Download – To download right-click on the link and select “Save Target As”)
For framing page elements including section headings, links, lists, etc. Due to diminished availability of this font on browsers, it is recommended that page elements in this font be created as graphic files to ensure display consistency.
  • Goudy Old Style BT (Download – To download right-click on the link and select “Save Target As”)
For image text in page graphics. As an example, this font was used as the basis for the text in the official WVU logo tag graphic. Versions of this graphic are available under Official Graphics.

The following RGB values should be used to represent official university colors.
